30 week bump and baby carriers

I need some advice in the world of baby carriers.  After I had Beckham, I borrowed a couple from friends/family, but I only used the Bjorn a couple times and all the carriers have all been returned.  It must have been a combination of Beckham being content in his boppy, or I could always push him in a stroller that I didn't feel the need to put him in a baby carrier very often.  I know I used the Bjorn once when I went on a hike with a friend, and it honestly wasn't that comfy - kinda hurt my back.
I think that's the other reason I didn't use a carrier if it could be avoided - my low back is my weak spot and I always figured I would end up with a sore back.  I definitely was not a mom that carried her baby around the house in a baby carrier...

So, now that baby #2 is coming along, I'm trying to decide whether to purchase a nice baby carrier... but have several questions on which I need some input:

1.)  Am I more likely to use a baby carrier with kid #2, since I only have one set of hands and 2 kids?
One in a stroller, one in a carrier?  Or is Beck going to just want to walk as he gets older and the baby can have the stroller?
2.)  Forget the carrier and just use a stroller that they can both ride/stand in?
3.)  What is a good brand of carrier that doesn't hurt your back?  I've read about Ergo's some, but really haven't researched any brands too much.
4.)  Is it worth buying, or just try to hunt down another used one? (probably depends on the brand I would want?)

Any input would be great!

And since we're on the topic of babies, I figured why not post one pregnancy picture before the baby comes... just so that I don't feel quite so lazy about never taking any pics. :)  So here's my lovely 30 week shot of boy #2 (oh yes, it is a boy... I meant to take a cute pic of Beck holding some sign saying it's a boy but never did :)).

I agree that the bjorn carrier hurts my shoulders. Luke has used it more than me. I don't use carriers that much and usually have the baby on my hip. I did use a ring style one from target with Christian and willem were really little. Not sure on the brand but I think it's called Hot sling. I've heard the cloth Moby wrap ones are annoying to put on but feel really nice on the back since they criss cross and basically cover the whole back instead of just thin straps. That's all I've got for you. Ash could tell you about the Ergo, I think that's what she used for Poppy in Italy.

My tiny little two cents is to borrow and forget buying a carrier. First off if you have low back issues I don't recommend carrying a baby back there. secondly, Beck is going to want to start walking soon. So maybe get a stroller where one can stand and one can sit. (thats what I wish I had right now with a 9 month old and a 3 year old). Liam my 3 year old just walks but I know he gets tired and then there is no room for him in the stroller with Ellie in there:).

BTW....super cute baby bump. AND I love your hair short like that.

So.. About two months after Avo came home (he was 6 months old) I just really felt that I needed to increase our bonding & the ergo helped. It is extremely comfortable front carrying. I am purchasing the hot sling for earlier this time around. Target used to sell them, but appears not To anymore (in store anyway). The moby is frustrating.. Best wishes & congratulations!

I actually loved the moby wrap. There's actually another brand I'm going to use this time around- sleepy wrap, which has now changed names (if you google sleepy wrap it will link you to the new name). Moby and sleepy wrap are the same, except the material of the sleepy wrap has a little more give so it doesn't stretch out as much when you take baby out~ therefore you shouldn't have to retie (theoretically). It was super comfortable for me and Quinn lived in it. Even if B will be wanting to walk - there are just some places that you'll want him contained in the stroller... so a sit/stand stroller would be a good option. Last, when #2 was born I would wear him in a carrier and #1 would go in the cart at the grocery store. So many options and decisions!

I really like the Balboa Baby Adjustable Sling by Dr. Sears. It has nice padding in the strap & it's nice and wide at the top so it doesn't cut in.

I have never really used my baby carrier much, just around the house a little bit, if he is fussy and I'm trying to make supper, but he's just in the way then when I'm trying to do things. We just use two strollers b/c if I ever have two or more of the kids w/ me, Troy or someone else is along too that can push the other stroller. If I'm shopping or something, Troy is with me, or his mom watches the kids if I'm by myself. So I guess I've never really had much of a need to use it.

I have the Ergo and I like it. I used it when we took the girls to the park. It was helpful. I haven't used it recently but might while we are in FL, otherwise I would send it your way. They are expensive so maybe a cheaper option would be better since you don't know if you will use it often. It's nice to have a carrier just in case.

Looking good! I have a Moby and borrowed a Bjorn but haven't used either yet. :)

Was just randomly clicking on different blogs and came across yours. It'll probably depend on the personality of your second child, but our second ALWAYS wanted to be held. And this mama always was trying to get stuff done. So even though I had an ergo with the first and hardly ever used it, it was essential in the life of my second child. When traveling by myself in crazy places (like airports), I will still throw him in it (he's 18mo), because sometimes it's just easier to navigate then pushing a stroller. Sometimes I would do both too... if we were going on long walks, and I knew my older child would get tired and eventually want the stroller (this was before the double), I would just toss the ergo underneath.
Tried the moby... too much material and was just about the same comfort level. My husband has back problems but never complains of the ergo.

Heather,

I'm late to this party, but I'll put in my 2 cents anyway. Tallie never needed to be carried around much, but Kaia STILL (16mo) can hardly handle not being able to at least touch me when we're in the same room. I carry Kaia a lot in a Moby wrap, especially when I'm trying to make dinner.
Once I got used to it it's pretty quick to put on (you look hilarious if you do it in public, just an FYI) and you can wrap it in about a hundred different ways for different needs/sizes. I've used it for almost 4 years, but much more in the past 16mos and I'd say, if your second kid needs to be held a lot, the Moby is a good choice, in my experience :) That said, my knees are my issue, not my back. Good luck in your search!
